Knowing others is intelligence; knowing yourself is wisdom.

Mastering others is strength; mastering yourself is true power.

Emotional Intelligence

Career development is personal development: you are who you are, wherever you are! Wherever you develop yourself you can apply that growth everywhere in your life.

Emotional intelligence sometimes called EQ (or EI) for short is your ability to read and understand emotions in yourself and other people. It is also what you do with this knowledge. Once you understand emotions you can use them to guide your thinking and behavior, to build relationships and achieve the outcome you want in life.

Developing your EQ is a personalized lifetime process that takes practice. You need to know where you need to work.

Four skills that are key in improving your Emotional Intelligence are:

  • Self-Awareness

  • Self-Management

  • Social-Awareness

  • Relationship-Management

Self-Awareness and Self-Management are more about you. It is your ability to stay aware of your emotions and manage your thinking and behavior. Social-Awareness and Relationship-Management are more about how you are with other people. It is your ability to understand other people’s moods, behavior and motives in order to improve the quality of your relationships.

At CNG Counselling we explore a series of practical techniques to enable you to develop these skills at any stage of your life in order to:

• Make better decisions
• Connect with others
• Handle stressful situations
• Know how your strengths and weaknesses can support you or limit you in your life
• Manage yourself – your thoughts and feelings
